  • South Bend, Notre Dame, Metronet partner to warm City Greenhouse

    Using heat generated by high-performance computer servers placed at the greenhouse by the University of Notre Dame, the city substantially reduced the facility's annual heating bill. St. Joe Valley Metronet's high-capacity network made the exchange of data between the University and the servers at the greenhouse possible.

  • Michiana Health Information Network

    The Michiana Health Information Network (MHIN) is a regional health information exchange (HIE) based in South Bend and dedicated to providing secure and relevant patient data to healthcare providers at the time of care. Today, MHIN has created an electronic database of over 700,000 online charts and over 120 data sources, connecting over 3,200 healthcare providers in northern Indiana and southwestern Michigan. MHIN is a national leader in the HIE field, named by the eHealth Initiative in 2009 to be one of few HIE's in the country to be in the most advanced state of fully operational development.

  • Community Foundation

    The Community Foundation of St. Joseph County is a charitable endowment with assets exceeding $100 million. Since 1992, approximately $50 million in grants have gone to support local nonprofits. Initiatives focus on strengthening early childhood education, helping elderly citizens stay in their homes longer, creating opportunities for African Americans, building our community’s arts and culture resources, and supporting local parks. The Community Foundation is pursing a Knight Foundation grant to lend additional support to a current major project: Making information about local science and technology research more broadly accessible in order to engage, educate, and inspire local citizens about how this research can impact our community’s future.
